If it is just one phone go to STEP B - Phones

Now that you determined that all phones are in failure and have no dial tone -  Go back to the main box often described as a Norstar, Nortel, or Nortel Networks Processor.  These may be labeled  CICS, MICS, or BCM or Norstar.

1. Locate the power cable of the main system. Once located trace it to its power source.

2. If the Power cord is plugged into a surge protector or backup power supply   - Relocate it to an outlet with working power.

If after you check the power and determined the power is not the issue there are very few other things a non-telephone technician can check.

Step B  Phone Testing

  1. Testing Digital Phones for Faulty Cords

One of the most common issues with digital phones is faulty cords. The phone may not be able to receive power or communicate with the phone system if the cords are damaged or not properly connected. Here's what you can do to test digital phones for faulty cords:

Step 1: Check the cords

Check the cords of the phone to make sure they are securely connected and not damaged. Make sure the power cord is connected to the phone and the wall socket, and the line cord is connected to the phone and the wall jack. If the cords are loose or damaged, you will need to replace them.

Step 2: Test the phone

Unplug the phone from the wall socket and wait for a few seconds before plugging it back in. If the phone starts working, then the problem was likely due to a loose cord. If the phone does not start, proceed to the next step.

Step 3: Check the wall socket

Unplug the phone from the wall socket and plug in a different device, such as a lamp, to make sure the socket is working properly. If the socket is not working, you will need to replace it.

Step 4: Contact Nortel Networks Support

If the problem persists after following the steps above, you may need to contact Nortel Networks Support for further assistance. They can help you determine if there is a problem with the phone itself or with the phone system.

  1. Fixing Stuck Buttons

Another common issue with Nortel Networks Digital Phones is stuck buttons. This can prevent you from using the phone properly and is usually caused by dust or debris inside the buttons. Here's what you can do to fix stuck buttons:

Step 1: Clean the buttons

Use a soft cloth to clean the buttons of the phone. Make sure to clean around the edges of the buttons to remove any dust or debris that may be preventing them from functioning properly.

Step 2: Check the buttons

Try pressing the buttons again to see if they are working properly. If the buttons are still stuck, proceed to the next step.

Step 3: Open the phone

If the buttons are still not working, you may need to open the phone to clean the buttons more thoroughly. Be careful when opening the phone to avoid damaging it.

Step 4: Clean the inside of the phone

Once the phone is open, use a soft cloth to clean the inside of the buttons and the surrounding area. Make sure to remove any debris or dust that may be preventing the buttons from functioning properly.

Step 5: Reassemble the phone

Once you have cleaned the inside of the phone, reassemble it and try pressing the buttons again. If the buttons are still not working, you may need to contact Nortel Networks Support for further assistance.

  1. Other Common Issues and Troubleshooting Steps

In addition to faulty cords and stuck buttons, there are several other common issues that you may encounter with Nortel Networks Digital Phone Systems. Here are some other problems and the steps you can take to troubleshoot them:
